Sewerslvt
Draining Love Story
Over two years Sewerslvt has been refining his sound from those humble beginnings of those mashups of Death Grips, Hotline Miami soundtrack and music alike, to his very first ambient songs and to finally his latest (as for 4th of March 2020) album, Draining Love Story.
“Love Is A Mighty Big word”, the first track on this record, is quite reminiscent of earlier, really ambient works of Sewerslvt. This also can be said about “This Fleeting Feeling”, which, by the way, with a good possibility is an allegory on sex and/or other sexual acts, but on that later. Although ambient sounds are still heard not only throughout this album, but also his discography as a whole. One of the things that ca be pointed out quite early in the record is seeming lack of continuity between songs. Between them it’s just a fade out and they don’t start off with what previous song musically had to say. Although these shifts in sound for me are forgiven for making the record more dynamic. The album is tied together by reverberated sound, ambient synths and fast beats which all together create this night-like, sort of sad sound and feeling.
“Mr. Kill Myself” is quite a highlight on the album, since it has best ambience and energy mix of all the songs here, with lowest and heaviest bass out of rest of the tracks. It was previously released as single in 24th of December 2019, which gained a lot of traction for him. Not to say he doesn’t have other comparatively popular songs, of which for example are “Hotline Spikes” or the 2019 album “Drowning In The Sewer”.
A lot of the samples on this album are quite edgy in context of this album. For example, on a track “Ecifircas” sample from 2005 adult animation Moral Orel was used in which Clay Puppington rants about injustices of the world. Or some girl saying, “I’m slitting my throat.” on track hhh, or the use of a sample from porn on “This Fleeting Feeling”. Edginess is quite amplified by song cover art on YouTube. But that brand of edginess is nothing new to him with, for example tracks that are named “Rapescape”, “Lolibox” and “177013”.
In short, album “Draining Love Story” Is Sewerslvt’s best work yet that mixes well night-like, reverberated ambience with fast energetic beats and low basses, while throwing in overly edgy and wannabe deep samples. Maybe repetitive.
